FDF Food Labelling Toolkit Shortlisted For Nutrition Award

04 Jun 2014 --- A food labelling toolkit produced by the Food and Drink Federation (FDF) has been shortlisted to win a 2014 Complete Nutrition (CN) Award in the 'Nutrition Resource of the Year' category.

The toolkit, titled 'Food and drink labelling: a tool to encourage healthier eating', was launched in November 2013 to help health professionals understand the changes being brought in under the Food Information to Consumers Regulation*.

The free resource provides a breakdown of forthcoming changes to nutrition, allergen and ingredient labelling, and offers tips on the best way to communicate information to patients and consumers.

Kate Halliwell, Nutrition and Health Manager at FDF, the voice of UK food and drink manufacturing, said: “Nearly all labels on pre-packaged foods and drinks will have changed by December 2014. We have created this resource to support health professionals to help their patients use the new food labels with confidence. We are thrilled with the response to this new toolkit from both the health community and Complete Nutrition's judging panel.”

Jane DeVille-Almond, Independent Nurse Consultant/Senior Lecturer, University of Wolverhampton, who nominated the toolkit in the category, said:

“Many patients become confused about what they should and should not have in a daily diet and using this tool will help both the nurse and the patient understand more about how to use labels to enable the uptake of a healthy, balanced diet. I have found this resource incredibly useful as a teaching tool with patients and in my training sessions to healthcare professionals.”

The CN Awards is hosted by Complete Nutrition Magazine and is comprised of ten categories that recognise and celebrate the achievements of groups or individuals whose great work has made a significant difference within the nutrition industry.

Voting closes on Monday 28 July 2014 and winners will be announced in September. Individuals can vote through the CN Awards online form.
