Danisco Welcomes Danish Clear Targets for Replacing Fossil Fuels

Sep 29 2010 --- Danisco has welcomed the Danish Commission on Climate Change Policy’s ambitious proposals for future energy solutions replacing fossil fuels.
The Danish Commission on Climate Change Policy appointed by the Danish government has presented its proposals for a future climate change and energy policy, including a vision of a Denmark independent of fossil fuels in 2050. To achieve this, the Commission has set out a series of 40 specific recommendations for initiatives and decisions, all of which have been designed in the expectation of implementation over the next few years in order to ensure progress towards achieving the long-term goal in 2050.
The proposals are extensive and visionary and offer the industry a very clear framework for the coming years if the proposals are adopted by the Danish parliament. A clear framework has been requested for several years.
“While we understand that there will be challenges in applying an equitable taxation mechanism, we applaud the Commission’s vision to develop a national and municipal framework to achieve the 2050 ambitions, including economic incentives for innovation of current and new technologies that drive lower carbon emissions and efficiency gains,” says Jeffrey Hogue, Vice President of Sustainability at Danisco. “This confirms that our efforts in value chain carbon impact reduction will contribute towards these aspirations in a concrete fashion.”
Danisco is working to develop solutions that may contribute to eliminating global dependence on fossil fuels, including enzymes for first and second generation biofuels, biological systems for the production of chemicals from renewable feedstocks and solutions to reduce carbon impacts in food production and consumption and consumer products.
”An ambitious policy could also pave the way for a Danish cluster of innovative businesses engaging in sustainable solutions for the benefit of Denmark and the world. Denmark already has a leading position within sustainable enzyme solutions and wind energy, but can go even further with the right political initiatives and incentives,” says Jeffrey Hogue.
