Corbion’s PURAC Powder MA Approved For Use in Canada
13 Jul 2016 --- PURAC Powder MA, the new non-fat coated malic acid product from Corbion, has been granted approval for use in sugar confectionary products in Canada.
After a successful launch in Europe and the US, Corbion’s PURAC Powder MA is now available to confectioners in Canada, and aims to meet the growing demand for increasingly extreme and sour taste profiles while also delivering enhanced product stability.
Claiming to deliver an instant but long lasting sour taste in confectionary products, the non-fat coated malic acid powder remains stable in products even with an extended shelf life, and is suitable for acid sanded confectionary.
Ardie van Lankveld, Market Manager Sweet at Corbion, told FoodIngredientsFirst: “Corbion Purac has been granted a patent for its unique fat-free coating technology for acid powders, applied in acid-sanded sugar confectionery. Based on this innovative technology, Corbion Purac has developed a range of market-leading malic acid powders, such as PURAC Powder MA, which enables manufacturers worldwide to develop differentiating sugar confectionery with instant and intensive sour taste profiles and prolonged shelf life.”
Van Lankveld continued: “Following our successful launch of PURAC Powder MA in Europe and the US, we’re extremely pleased to announce the product and its twin benefits are now available to formulators in Canada.”
Whereas many acids used in confectionary applications are coated with fat, the fat free alternative from Corbion aims to prevent stability issues including hygroscopicity, acid migration, gelatin degradation and off flavors.
This in turn prevents the product from becoming sticky and losing its textural integrity and visual appeal.
Van Lankveld explains, “Our unique fat-free coated malic acid remains stable even in fat sensitive products with an extended shelf life and delivers an instant but long-lasting sour taste. For example, in fat sensitive confectionery production processes such as marshmallows, PURAC Powder MA enables producers to develop instant sour-tasting marshmallows while maintaining premium product quality.”
He adds: “We’re the only supplier able to offer this ground-breaking solution with unique patented coating technology for acid powders to the confectionery market.”
PURAC Powder MA was also recently launched in Latin America and is soon to be followed by the Asia-Pacific region.
