Campina`s new meat-replacer, Valess will be on shop shelves next week.
27/05/01 - Valess, a new dairy-based meat-replacement product from Campina will be on shop shelves next week. Campina will market the meat-replacer as a healthy, low-fat, low-cholesterol alternative to meat products.
“Valess has had a very enthusiastic response so far, 59 percent of all (food) retailers will have it on their shop shelves by February 3rd or 4th”, says Campina spokesperson, Ria Feldman. With a taste similar to, but different than chicken, the milk-based meat replacer will come in three varieties, nuggets, small fillets and minced.
Innovation and the development of new dairy-based products are of prime importance to Campina which just announced that research and development will be one of its main focuses in 2005. Campina’s production plant in Wageningen, Holland, developed a very successful long shelf life milk last march and the company plans to maintain its edge in innovative product, packaging and systems development.
Food and beverage innovation publication, Innova was the first to report the new product launch in October 2004 issue. At that time Campina confirmed the whey-based meat alternative would be made in a stand-alone profit centered cheeseplant in Tilburg.
