06 Jul 2016 --- Campbell Soup Company have urged Congress and the President to enact bipartisan legislation proposed by the US Senate that directs the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) to craft a national mandatory disclosure system for foods made with genetically modified organisms (GMOs) as soon as possible.
Campbell applauds Senators Pat Roberts (R-KS) and Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) for their proposal to help consumers more easily access information about GMOs in foods. The bill paves the way for a single national standard with multiple options for disclosure. Campbell remains committed to printing clear and simple language on the labels of all of its US products.
The company is in discussions with the USDA and the Food and Drug Administration about its plans to develop on-pack language that is easy for consumers to understand and clearly identifies the presence of ingredients derived from GMO crops.
In January, Campbell was the first major food company to announce support for a single mandatory labeling standard and its commitment to label all of its US products.
