Berkshire Mountain Distillers Collaborates With Craft Brewers on Limited Edition Cask Finished Bourbons
14 Feb 2014 --- Berkshire Mountain Distillers has recently launched a unique collaboration with 10 influential craft brewers across the country. Inspired by his love of craft beer and creating new, unique spirits, BMD owner and distiller, Chris Weld is finishing his award winning (Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible; Whisky Guild Gold Medal Winner) Berkshire Bourbon in recently emptied beer barrels from participating brewers for a minimum of three months.
“We are looking forward to seeing what subtle changes each different style beer will impart on our bourbon,” says Weld.
So far, Berkshire Mountain Distillers has released limited-edition bourbons in Massachusetts – continuing their partnership with Samuel Adams – in addition to collaborations with Georgia’s Terrapin Brewing Company and Pennsylvania’s Tröegs Brewing Company. In the coming months BMD is set to release four more limited-edition bourbons in partnership with Michigan’s Founders Brewing, Florida’s Cigar City Brewing, Montana’s Big Sky Brewing and Washington’s Hale’s Ales.
The name of the brewery and beer will be indicated on each bottle of bourbon and will only be available in the brewer’s region. Berkshire Mountain Distillers’ partnerships with such a diverse range of world-class, craft-brewers is a testament to the growing popularity of the high-quality products craft distillers and brewers have to offer. These collaborations afford fans of both genres an exciting new drinking experience.
This limited-edition line of Berkshire Bourbon will remain at 43% ABV with an MSRP ranging form $42.99 to $60. Berkshire Bourbon is smooth and balanced with bright notes of spicy rye, vanilla and mature fruit, with a lingering finish of caramel and toasted nut. It is triple distilled and aged in charred virgin American white oak barrels. The mash bill contains corn sourced from a family farm located just three miles from the distillery.
