BASF Illertissen Site Awarded Certification for Food Safety
The Illertissen site produces ingredients and additives for the food industry, health improvement products and products for active and passive fire protection.
Jul 18 2011 --- The Illertissen site of BASF Personal Care and Nutrition GmbH has successfully completed certification for the new food safety standard FSSC 22000 (Food Safety System Certification). The certification applies to all products produced in the esterification, spray-drying and food emulsifier systems at the Illertissen site. The FSSC 22000 standard was developed by the Foundation for Food Safety Certification and approved by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI).
"This certification is very important to us because it underlines our high standards and our excellent quality in the production of functional foodstuffs, dietary supplements and food additives. We have shown our customers once again that food safety is our highest priority," says Massimo Armada, Head of the BASF Global Business Unit Human Nutrition.
FSSC 22000 was developed for the certification of food safety systems in collaboration with renowned food companies. The standard is a supplement to DIN ISO 22000 and can only be certified in connection with this DIN standard. FSSC 22000 gives companies the opportunity to demonstrate a standard level recognized by the GFSI. Such standards are a frequent prerequisite for being able to supply international food companies.
