Axereal and Tereos Cooperative Groups Establish Strategic Partnership
17 Nov 2014 --- Axereal, France’s leading grain collector, and Tereos, France’s number one sugar group, both major cereal processors in France and internationally, are announcing a long-term strategic partnership to develop an innovative range of solutions for their brewery and distillery customers.
This partnership aims to develop a wider range of innovative products for their brewery and distillery customers, which source malt from Axereal and glucose syrups from Tereos. More specifically, this will be reflected in a joint research and development program. The two groups will combine their commercial and industrial knowledge and expertise to provide their customers with better support as they develop on Boortmalt’s export markets, particularly in emerging countries.
Under this partnership, Tereos will be taking up a minority interest in the malt subsidiary. With over one million tons of malt sold, Boortmalt, the Axereal group’s malt subsidiary, is the world’s fifth largest malt producer and sells its produce in Europe, South America, Africa and Asia.
The Axereal and Tereos groups, which encompass 25,000 French farmers and cooperative growers, share a common goal to add value to their cooperative members’ produce. Both groups have a longstanding presence on international markets, thereby meeting the challenges associated with their respective business lines, now largely globalized. Faced with the growing challenges that come with openness and volatility, this international presence is more than ever central to their cooperative mission, which involves developing new outlets in growing markets for their members’ agricultural produce.
