Arla thinks over Scottish expansion
Reports a 3 per cent fall in interim profits to £22.3 million from £23.1m.
30/05/05 Scottish expansion has been put firmly at the centre of dairy giant Arla's recovery strategy, after the company reported a 3 per cent fall in interim profits to £22.3 million from £23.1m.
The Scottish thrust, centred on Arla's proposed new multi-million pound dairy processing plans in Lockerbie, threatens to open a new Scottish bout of the so-called "dairy wars" that shook the UK industry last year as all the major supermarkets changed suppliers.
Arla, which is 51 per cent owned by Danish-based co-operative Arla Foods, now has 35 per cent of the UK fresh milk market.
