26 June 2012 --- Anheuser-Busch InBev has released a statement addressing speculation about a possible combination between AB InBev and Grupo Modelo.
AB InBev stated that it “routinely considers a variety of strategic options to create value for its shareholders. There have been discussions between the company and Grupo Modelo regarding a possible transaction to expand its currentrelationship.
“These discussions may or may not lead to a transaction and any speculation on terms and conditions is therefore premature. There is a long history of partnership between Anheuser-Busch InBev and Grupo Modelo and AB InBev has great admiration for the Modelo business and its brands.”
Shares in both companies rose on Monday after rumors emerged that the companies were discussing expanding their joint relationship.
AB InBev is already in possession of a 50.4 percent non-controlling stake in the company. The merger could bring about big cost savings and would give the company control of exports of Corona beer, the No.1 imported brand in the United States.
