AkzoNobel Launches a New Production Facility in India For Its Industrial Coatings Business
14 Jul 2014 --- AkzoNobel is opening a new production facility in Thane, India to manufacture coatings for the metal packaging and flexible packaging industries. The primary markets the production facility will serve are India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Southeast Asia.
The production facility will have a capacity of 5000 tons a year and is set to produce a broad range of products including interior lacquers for food and beer cans, internal and external lacquers for caps and closures, and water-borne external lacquers for beverage cans. The new production facility will also be capable of producing various functional and barrier coatings for the flexible packaging industry.
"Our markets in South Asia particularly India are growing rapidly, so expanding our production capacity is a priority," comments AB Ghosh, Managing Director Industrial Coatings. "It reflects our optimism about the market and commitment to invest in the markets where we are active."
Ashok Joshi, Director Packaging Coatings, comments, "The Thane production facility, located 25 kilometers northeast of Mumbai, was chosen not only to leverage AkzoNobel's scale, but more importantly to be closer to our customers."
The Thane production facility is modeled after the state-of-the-art infrastructure of the Packaging Coatings plant in Vilafranca. To ensure best practice performance, it will operate in full compliance with all AkzoNobel Health, Safety, Environmental, and Security (HSE&S) standards using the AkzoNobel's HSE&S Management System.
