Ajinomoto to construct new R&D facility

10/06/05 Leading Japanese processed food manufacturer Ajinomoto announced on June 7 that it will construct an R&D center on the compound of its Kawasaki Plant. The company will invest 5 billion yen ($46 mil) in the facility, which is slated for completion in June 2006.
The new R&D center will promote information sharing using IT technologies with the aims of ensuring the company's competitive superiority and deepening communications with customers while focusing on the security and safety of food.
The facility will feature a quake-absorbing structure and deploy environmentally-friendly and energy-saving equipment. The new project is part of Ajinomoto's 40 billion yen ($370 mil) five-year endeavor to transform the plant as an advanced technology development center.
