Dawn Foods Secures Certification For Mass Balance Use of RSPO Certified Palm Oil
26 Nov 2015 --- Dawn Foods, bakery ingredients and finished sweet bakery products manufacturer, has secured Mass Balance certification to verify that it sources and uses only RSPO certified palm oil across all of its European production sites.
The certification means that Dawn is using palm oil in mass balanced quantity – one of the four recognised supply chains for sustainable palm oil recognised by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).
Dawn Foods has been a member of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) since 2011, supporting an initiative which certifies independently audited sustainable palm oil plantations in accordance with the globally agreed environmental standards devised by the RSPO to ensure the palm industry can continue to grow without causing environmental and social issues.
This year Dawn Foods Germany was also handpicked by WWF as one of the companies to participate in its 2015 Scorecard. Now in its third year, the Scorecard is designed to assess the performance of major retailers, foodservice companies, consumer goods companies and manufacturers worldwide on their use of certified sustainable palm oil. Dawn Foods received 16 out of 20 points, reaffirming the company’s efforts and positive engagement on the use of palm oil.
“Dawn Foods is committed to ensuring the highest levels of social corporate responsibility across all of its businesses so we are delighted to now be able to verify to our customers that all of our palm oil is sustainably sourced. We were pleased to also receive such a high score from WWF Germany in its Scorecard,” said Chris Jenkins, Dawn Foods’ Cluster Director - UK & Ireland.
As well as RSPO certification, Dawn Foods also holds UTZ Chain of Custody for Cocoa supply, while Dawn Foods Evesham is also certified Kosher and Vegetarian.
