Zip-Pak acquires Supreme Plastic's Recloseable Division
The acquisition will provide customers of both companies the benefits of further investment in research and development, increased technical support and enhanced customer service.
26/07/05 Zip-Pak, an ITW Company, has purchased Supreme Plastics Ltd’s (London) reclosables division, comprising its resealable zipper and resealable bag business, including the associated technology portfolios. Zip-Pak will also acquire Supreme Plastics’ plant in Whitby, England.
“Zip-Pak and Supreme Plastics have complementary product profiles. A majority of Supreme’s business comes from narrower zipper profiles, whereas most of Zip-Pak’s business is from wider, value-added zipper profiles,” said Jim Kohl, president of Zip-Pak. “The additional technologies expand the breadth of resealable solutions Zip-Pak provides.”
The acquisition, which joins together two global market leaders in resealable packaging technology, will provide customers of both companies the benefits of further investment in research and development, increased technical support and enhanced customer service.
Following the opening of a plant in Winschoten, The Netherlands, in January 2004, the Whitby plant will further expand Zip-Pak’s presence in Europe. Additionally, Zip-Pak will be producing zipper profiles in Murcia, Spain through Plasticos Iberotec, a subsidiary of Supreme Plastics.
Michael Burton, former business unit manager of Zip-Pak’s Ottawa, Illinois facility, has been named general manager of European operations. “The growth in manufacturing capacity demonstrates Zip-Pak’s commitment to meeting the growing demand for resealable flexible packaging in Europe,” said Burton.
