Zilor-Biorigin Sustainability Report highlights “84 percent overall customer satisfaction”

01 Aug 2018 --- To demonstrate how its businesses are conducted responsibly and transparently, Zilor-Biorigin has presented the 6th edition of its Sustainability Report, presenting the main results and initiatives of the company from April 1, 2016, to March 31, 2018. This edition highlighted Biorigin’s production record, in addition to the 84 percent of overall customer satisfaction. In caring for people, the investments in the development, safety and well-being of employees with the Life in Focus Program.

Published since 2007, Zilor-Biorigin's sustainability reports follow the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), which is an international standard for reporting sustainability of organizations, presenting information on socio-environmental performance and long-term business prospects to give account to all stakeholders. 

This new report highlights the main initiatives promoted by Zilor, regarding to the three sugar, ethanol and electric power plants located in Brazil in São Paulo state (Lençóis Paulista, Macatuba and Quatá cities), and also to Biorigin, a business unit specialized in biotechnology, with units in Brazil, the United States and Europe and that serves customers worldwide. 

As part of the strategies for the future, the company has promoted the Zilor More Program, which seeks to increase its competitiveness and efficiency through cost streamline, strengthening corporate governance, optimizing processes and eliminating waste, with a focus on their business. The Report also presents the challenges and goals, attitudes that contribute to a more sustainable future for the next generations. Zilor will promote 380 hectares of forest restoration between 2018 and 2028 in the regions of Quatá and Lençóis Paulista. This year, it was set a new long-term goal for our operations, according to the company. 

By 2025, the goal is reduced by 49 percent the volume of water collected for each ton of processed sugarcane. The community is also in the company focus. In the 2018/19 harvest, the challenge will be to promote a social entrepreneurship model, enabling organizations for independence and financial sustainability. 

In this way, Zilor shares wealth and knowledge with the communities that provide them with a social license to operate, according to the company. 

Zilor’s CEO, Fabiano José Zillo, underscores the company's commitment, transparency and ability to generate value for its stakeholders.

This new moment is marked by actions and investments to gain operational efficiency and strategies to put Zilor in a new level of competitiveness.

At IFT in Chicago last month, Biorigin was exhibiting how their yeast extracts can be used for sugar reduction. Maria Helena Branco tells FoodIngredientsFirst: “Consumers are looking for healthier products in the market. The biggest trend that we see now is sugar reduction. The yeast extracts we have are usually used in savory products, but can now be used in sweet products. It is important to understand the specific profiles of the yeast, some are more savory than others. We have been able to reduce sugar in iced coffees, juices, cakes and biscuits. This is a growing platform and a solid trend in the market.”
