Valio granted Green Food label in China
The label signifies product safety and environmentally sound production methods.
05/04/05 The China Green Food Development Center has granted the Grade A Green Food label to Valio. The label makes Valio a part of a very select group: though a few thousand locally-owned companies already use the label, Valio is only the third foreign company in China to have earned this right.
The label signifies product safety and environmentally sound production methods. The whole manufacturing process has to meet the regulations set for production environment and quality systems in order to receive the Green Food label. In the dairy industry this means that the entire chain extending from farm to final product undergoes inspection.
Finnish company, Valio exported 12.5 million kilos of dairy products to China in 2003. DEMI (demineralised whey powder) accounts for the largest slice and has been sold to China for more than 10 years. DEMI powder is used e.g. as an ingredient of baby foods and chocolate and Valio is one of the three biggest exporters of demineralised whey powder into China. In 2001, Valio opened a representative office in Shanghai. Products including DEMI, milk powder, butter and processed cheese are now exported to China.
