18 May 2016 --- Tereos, the French co-operative which specializes in making sugar, starch and bioethanol, is to expand its subsidiary Tereos Commodities into ethanol.
Tereos set up its subsidiary Tereos Commodities in 2014 to trade, merchandise and distribute its products.
"The development of our international distribution activities forms part of our strategy to globalise agricultural and more unstable markets. With the development of Tereos Commodities and the expansion of its ethanol trade, we provide our customers with a high-quality offer, originating from a controlled and sustainable supply chain, in order to support them in the markets in which they are developing”, said Alexis Duval, chief executive of Tereos.
Tereos produces almost 2 million m3 of ethanol per year.
Overseeing the venture will be Laurent Ibars, who has more than 15 years’ experience in the sugar and ethanol markets in Europe and South America.
Tereos Commodities, which was set up November 2014, began its sugar trading, distribution and merchandising activities in March 2015.
The expansion of the subsidiary comes as Tereos seeks to carve a 15% market share in global white sugar distribution by 2020.
