Synergy Enters Strategic Partnership for Lactic Yeast Extracts
With access to 40 European countries, Omya will act as Synergy’s key continental distributor, strengthening the company’s ability to provide customers with high quality ingredients quickly and efficiently.

Nov 24 2011 --- Savoury ingredients supplier, Synergy has entered into a new strategic partnership which aims to drive growth and promote its lactic yeast extracts in Europe. Omya is a leading global chemical distributor and producer of industrial minerals with proven experience and expertise in the food sector. With access to 40 European countries, the company will act as Synergy’s key continental distributor, strengthening the company’s ability to provide customers with high quality ingredients quickly and efficiently.
Omya will be focusing on promoting Synergy’s Saporesse range of natural lactic yeast extracts. The ingredients enable food manufacturers to enhance flavour and mouthfeel in reduced salt and low fat products. The range comprises six ingredients including Saporesse Low Salt, ideal for taste enhancement in cheese and dairy applications, Saporesse Enhancer for the enrichment of creamy notes and four Saporesse Plus products to improve umami and flavour intensity while reducing salt, fat and MSG. Leveraging parent company, Carbery’s dairy heritage and expertise, the ingredients perform particularly well in dairy and cheese based applications such as soups, sauces, ready meals and savoury bakery. Proven to enhance saltiness by 18-25 per cent, Saporesse can be labelled simply as ‘yeast extract’ or ‘natural flavour preparation’, tapping into the growing clean label trend.
“We are pleased to announce our new partnership with Omya,’ John Godwin, commercial director, Synergy comments. “The company has an established presence in Europe which supports our existing networks and enables us to service customers even better. Omya will promote our Saporesse range of natural lactic yeast extracts which cater for the rising demand for flavour enhancers in standard and reduced fat or salt products. Our customers increasingly need to create appealing products that also deliver on taste, mouthfeel and label declarations. Saporesse is a cost-effective solution to build flavour in many savoury products.”
Omya is showcasing Saporesse at Food Ingredients Europe this year. On-stand (4F9), representatives will be demonstrating how the ingredients add value to snack seasonings. Visitors will be able to sample Saporesse enhanced Dubliner cheese and caramelised onion crisps.
