24/02/09 Starting immediately, the global fragrances and flavorings manufacturer Symrise will be supplying organic-quality vanilla extracts to the international foods industry. These high-quality bourbon vanilla extracts from Madagascar have been certified by ECOCERT, an independent certification organization whose internationally recognized seal guarantees that products are both natural and organic, and that they have been processed using traditional methods.
Consumers are making more conscious food choices and demanding sustainability and authenticity – a situation that continues to make organic products an attractive growth market. Now included in the Symrise product portfolio are two organic vanilla extracts, which the company will use to help its clients make their organic product concepts a reality.
The extracts, which Symrise is offering in a variety of concentrations, are ideal for use in typical vanilla products such as ice cream and desserts. Plus, organic vanilla can also be used in countless basic organic product formulations, where it will round out the taste profile of such items as baked goods, chocolates and beverages.
“This allows us to offer our clients three advantages in one,” explains Oliver Nembach, who is responsible for business development of vanilla at Symrise. “Not only can they advertise that their products contain ‘organic vanilla’ or ‘organic vanilla extract’ – they can also add ‘real bourbon vanilla’ to labels and indicate ‘Madagascar’ as the place of origin.”
The use of an organic vanilla extract is especially interesting for clients who already manufacture products based on readily available organic raw materials such as tea, cocoa, coffee, sugar, milk or flour, and who would like to upgrade these products through the addition of organic vanilla.
“We’ve been noticing increased demand for certified organic flavorings and ingredients,” says Nembach. “The powerful trend toward natural products that come in many nuanced varieties has continued unabated. Organic products occupy an especially attractive niche in the premium goods market – you simply can’t get around real bourbon vanilla if you want to make high-quality, premium products. That’s why our new certification puts us in such an excellent position for meeting the demands of tomorrow’s market.”
Its over 130 years of experience makes Symrise one of the world’s leading suppliers of vanilla flavorings. Symrise is also the only flavorings manufacturer that takes the vanilla extraction process into its own hands on Madagascar itself and oversees the entire production process up to and including industrial processing.
In the near future, Symrise will also be adding fair trade vanilla extracts to its portfolio alongside its organic vanilla extracts. “Besides making good on our commitment to social responsibility for vanilla growers in Madagascar,” adds Oliver Nembach happily, “this also means that we will be offering our clients critical added value to make their products a success.”
