14 Nov 2013 --- For this year's holiday season, Saku Brewery is offering Porter Special Brew, now available in limited quantities at bigger shops.
Saku Brewery's Head Brewmaster Tarmo Tappo says that the brewing of a porter with a maturation process this long is a rare and special choice. "Whereas it is freshly brewed beer that brings out the best flavour in ale, slow ageing has a very good effect on dark, strong beer. The flavour of the slowly matured Porter Special Brew is rounder and softer and has a richer caramel aroma and flavour than Saku Porter, which has a shorter maturation period," Tappo explained. In his assessment, the brewing of porter this year was a success and will provide lovers of porter with an opportunity to sample something special.
Porter Special Brew is bottled in 0.5-litre glass bottles, packaged in four-packs and brewed to a strength of 6.9%. This porter will nicely make a complement any meal during the holiday season and an accompaniment to richer dishes. It is recommended that you serve Porter Special Brew in a goblet of moderate size at a temperature of 12 to 14 degrees.
Saku Porter Special Brew was released for sale in November, in limited quantities at bigger retail chains, with the traditional Saku Porter available more widely.
At the international World's Best Beers Awards 2012 held in London to select the world's best beers, the traditional Saku Porter was declared the world's best strong porter.
