Yves Daudigny, member of the Social Affairs Commission of the French Senate, tabled an amendment on the Draft Finance Law for Social Security for 2013 (PLFSS) to increase taxes on palm oil. While the proposed amendment refers to health-related concerns on palm oil consumption, the considerations in the public domain have also raised important questions on the environmental impact of palm oil production.
