Product safety at the core: Increasing product safety for end-users
As a major supplier of packaging solutions to the food industry worldwide Superfos gives highest priority to product safety in the entire lifecycle - from raw materials to end-use
Product safety and food hygiene are heavily debated subjects and plastic packaging is at the centre of the debate. As a major supplier of plastic packaging solutions for food industry internationally, Superfos is very conscious of this development and product safety is taken very seriously.
Product Safety is always given the highest priority in Superfos. Superfos’ solutions meet all the formal international demands placed on food packaging – from raw materials to production processes and to end-use.
Superfos only uses polypropylene (PP) or polyethylene (PE) plastics that according to all existing analysis and reports do not give off unwanted substances to contents, food and non-food.
Traceability and production hygiene
To further meet the market’s increasing demands for food safety, Superfos also places great importance on developing systems for product safety, traceability, etc. For instance, in the area of traceability we have chosen to implement a new barcode label-system, which means we offer additional labels with Serial Shipping Container Codes in barcode format EAN 128. This corresponds to the future European standard that is first expected to be mandatory for packaging in 2007.

Also in the production process product safety and hygiene regulations are at the heart of Superfos quality and these are continuously improved to comply with the market as well as with customers and official demands. Today, Superfos hygiene regulations include a hygiene control system based BRC/IOP, as well as quality certificates such as ISO 9001, DS 3027 – HACCP and ISO 14001.
Increasing product safety for end-users
Superfos does not stop at present legislative demands. Built-in qualities in a pack are an increasingly important competitive parameter.
In addition to formal requirements, we also seek to develop solutions with value adding built-in qualities such as unique closure systems and outstanding barrier properties that further optimise product safety. Legislation is often based on demands from consumers and consumer protection organisations and the clear signal is that product safety is of increasing importance for consumers who at the same time desire convenient products that stay fresh longer and are easy to use.
