Novozymes Takes Food Safety to a New Level with the FSSC 22000
The FSSC 22000 is recently approved by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI), and the certification represents another step in Novozymes’ concerted efforts to strengthen its customers’ brands and contribute to the simplification of the many quality standards within the food industry.
Jul 16 2010 --- Novozymes is the market leader in industrial enzymes, food enzymes and enzymes for the baking industry. Now the company has attained the well-respected FSSC 22000 for its baking enzymes and Acrylaway, and according to Vice President of Quality Flemming Funch, “it takes our promise of safety and quality to a whole new level of end-user assurance.”
Public focus on safety in food is rapidly increasing. As safety and customer requirements have always been taken very seriously in Novozymes, the company applied for this new certification. “Many of our customers are seeking documented safety to ensure that the quality of their products can be proved and that the consumers get a product they can count on. The FSSC 22000 is the most recent and very extensive GFSI-approved standard and it gives our customers the benefit of absolute certainty when it comes to safety in foods. In turn, that gives our customers strong brand equity and documented product quality,” explains Flemming Funch.
Another reason to apply for this particular certification is that it is recommended by some major players in the food industry and is well-suited to Novozymes’ way of doing business, including its take on the many certification systems in the industry: “Novozymes supports the GFSI concept of ‘once certified approved everywhere.’ We also believe that the whole supply chain benefits from having a small range of acknowledged standards, where the individual supplier can adopt the standard best suited to his business model. In turn, the customer gets the necessary transparency and assurance to ensure his own customers that the products are safe,” explains Flemming Funch.
The FSSC 22000 contains an extensive scheme for food-safety systems and provides third-party assurance about the safety of the certified company’s products.
The FSSC 22000 is now an integrated part of Novozymes’ management system, which also includes requirements from the company’s additional certifications such as ISO 9001 & 14001, Kosher and Halal and the FAMI-QS certification. Novozymes’ customers also benefit from the fact that production of Novozymes’ portfolio of baking enzymes, including Novozymes Acrylaway, has been certified by the American Institute of Baking standard with the highest rating of being “superior.
