New player emerges in Allied Domecq race

US based producer and marketer of beverage alcohol brands Constellation is looking to add more spirit brands to its portfolio.

15/;04/05 Constellation Brands has emerged as a new bidder to compete with Pernod Ricard for Allied Domecq. The US based producer and marketer of beverage alcohol brands across the wine, spirits and imported beers is looking to add more spirit brands. Last week French based Pernod Ricard, the third largest liquor company in the world announced that it was teaming up with US based Fortune Brands to make a joint bid for its larger UK based rival Allied. The move for the $11.2 billion valued company would see Pernod gain ground on Diageo.

But now Constellation is also in on the act as it pursues acquisitions in the spirits industry. Last year Constellation, whose portfolio includes Corona Extra, Corona Light, Pacifico, Modelo Especial, Negra Modelo, St. Pauli Girl, Tsingtao, Black Velvet, Fleischmann's, Mr. Boston and Paul Masson expanded its wine business when it bought the Robert Mondavi Group.
