New Mascara and Lipgloss Case at OEKAMETAL
With its long experience in overmoulding technical parts OEKAMETALL is able to offer injection moulding around an anodised aluminium component.
17/02/07 OEKAMETALL created a new fancy Double Ended Mascara with an elaborate decoration for the brand LANCÔME. The two cylindrically shaped bottles are injection moulded and refined with various decoration techniques. To create a high-class shiny look the bottle on the “comb side” is HV-metallized and lacquered, the Lancôme logo is pad printed. The black container on the “brush side” is decorated with a silver hot foil. The subsequent coating with mat lacquer leaves a pleasant haptic.
The centre piece as the linking element of the two mascara containers has an inner gating. The typical Lancôme rose and the two silver rings are achieved by silver hot foil stamping. The challenge was the assembly of centre piece and applicator unit consisting of 9 individual parts monitored by several control stations.
The exact positioning of the deco elements in line was another very demanding task. Each single component was equipped with an orientation feature to enable accurate aligning during assembly and printing.
The mascara is equipped with a patented brush on one side and an injection moulded comb on the other. The comb is made of Hytrel, a soft plastic which needs to be attached precisely at an accurate depth.
New Lipgloss pack
For more than 50 years OEKAMETALL has produced complete packs for lip cosmetics (lipstick, lipgloss). We continuously refine and improve our product range and quality standards to the requirements of our customers and their markets.
Currently there is a trend to transparent and, in particular, crystal clear lipgloss bottles. Especially thick-wall plastic bottles achieve increasing popularity. They provide the impression of glass and thus the idea of an extraordinarily high-prestige pack.
OEKAMETALL is therefore developing a new standard pack that is distinguished by this optical characteristic.
Furthermore an innovative cap will complement the new bottle: a transparent injection-mould around a shiny aluminium cover. This effect is supposed to significantly enhance the attractiveness and value of the lipgloss pack.
With its long experience in overmoulding technical parts OEKAMETALL is able to offer injection moulding around an anodised aluminium component. During this process it is critical not to damage the sensitive anodic coating which normally will not resist the high processing temperatures.
The anodic coating keeps the aluminium from oxidizing and gives the special shine. An appropriate way of cooling had to be found to prevent the anodic coating from being damaged during the moulding process.
The advantage: Due to the contraction property of plastics in this process there is no need to additionally fasten the parts by disturbing grooves or glueing.
