New Dedicated Yeast Beer Brews "Single" at Delhaize
Following the success of the Single Hop, Hop Xtreme and passed in just one month, this time Delhaize offers beer lovers the chance to discover the incredible influence of yeast on the taste of it. Beers "Special Yeast" have the peculiarity of being brewed with the same hops and malt but even contain a different yeast that brings a special flavor to the beer fruity (Trappist type) smoked (German-style), neutral (English type) or funky (Brett yeast). Fans will be able to better perceive the unique contribution made by each yeast in the different beers. Limited edition to only 8000 bottles per type of beer.
The influence of the yeast
At Delhaize, innovation, taste and education play a key role in product development. That is why the company launched two years ago a series of beers to introduce consumers to the influence of different ingredients on the beer’s aroma. And the interest of amateurs was clearly met as beers Single Hop (2011) and Xtreme Hop (2013), which put light on the importance of hops, have passed in just one month, sales of 4,000 bottles of each type!
Given this success, Delhaize repeated the experience with a little work on the influence of known yeast. Indeed, most breweries have their own "house yeast" that brings a great deal of character and therefore the reputation of their beers.
All beers "Special Yeast" series are brewed using the same recipe, only the yeast changes. Raw materials malt and hops provide the basic structure of the product while the yeast gives alcohol and a typical range of aromas. Yeasts produce, with the same work, more alcohol and other flavorings.
And to meet the high demand from fans of "single" concept, Delhaize launches this time not three but four beers.
4 styles of yeast
To demonstrate the determinant of the yeast on beer influence, Delhaize offers its customers four new beers whose flavor profile varies with yeast: fruity, smoky, funky or net. Each beer contains the same amount of hops and the same type of brewing but different yeast, which allows you to compare more easily the impact of yeast on a particular aspect taste.
Monk invites you to discover the fruit: the fruity character is quite typical of many Belgian beers and more importantly, some Trappist. The yeast in the beer produces aromatic components (esters), which are strongly reminiscent of bananas. The uniqueness of this yeast is to create a slight haze in beer. 7.2% alc.
The German expression smoked side: many Belgian beers (especially among blondes) have a spicy aroma and smoky. We often hear of clove and chimney odor. These flavors are also reflected clearly in Weizenbieren (white beer) German. 6.6% alc.
Englishman to show when yeast gives neutrality. Indeed, typically ales have a very neutral character. Therefore, the other raw materials (malt and hops) are better highlighted. These yeasts were selected over time by English brewers because of their powerful clarifying power. Yeast settles very quickly after the fermentation process and the beer is therefore naturally clear.6.9% alc.
Finally, Brett expresses one side more "funky" yeast: Brettanomyces yeasts are yeasts apart from yeasts beer. In most beers, flavor "Brett" would be considered an infection, but in some beer styles, these yeasts provide precisely the desired aroma. The aromas are very organic and suggest "the horse and stable". 7.5% alc.
In bottles of 75 cl, the "Special Yeast" beers are on sale from the end of October at a very attractive price of € 3.79 a bottle. The beer is to be served at a temperature of 6° to 8° C.
