Marks & Spencer Closes Purchase of 15,000 RTRS Credits in the Retailer Sector

25 Feb 2014 --- Marks & Spencer has given a very positive step by closing the purchase of 15,000 RTRS (responsible certified soy) Credits, joining companies that have chosen this modality to show their commitment with responsible soy. The news here is that M&S is a pioneer in its sector, being the first retailer to acquire such a high amount of credits. Thus, we hope this will inspire others to follow suit.

An RTRS Member since 2008, Marks & Spencer features high quality products, both in the food sector and in the apparel and household sectors. All these products are responsibly supplied through their 2 thousand global suppliers.

The news came as Ruchi Soya Industries acquired 10,000 RTRS Credits and has confirmed its support of responsible production in India.

The transaction was recently completed through the RTRS Credit Trading Platform, thus uniting the industry and responsible production in India. With the purchase of 10.000 RTRS Credits from Samarth Kisan Producer Company Ltd, Ruchi Soya Industries has not only ratified its commitment with responsible soy, but also its decision to support almost 2,900 small producers in India.

Ruchi Soya is a leader in the oil, soy-based food and processed products in India, with a well-established brand associated with quality and innovation. Besides, with this purchase, it fosters RTRS-certified production in India, which began in 2012.

Samarth Kisan Producer Company Ltd has the support from the Madhya Pradesh administration and supplies certified seeds and technical training to its 2,874 small production members. Through this network, it offers them information on best agricultural practices and new agricultural machinery, apart from help for applying for government subsidies.
