Leiber Expands Spray-Drying Capabilities
The spray-drying system that is to dry up to 3 000 tons of yeast extract, autolysates and MOS products per year has an internal as well as an external fluidised bed which allow for extremely targeted and particularly gentle post-drying of highly sensitive products.
29 Apr 2010 --- Leiber GmbH, Bramsche, Germany is one of Europe’s leading companies in processing brewery by-products and is now investing a single-digit million amount in a state-of-the-art spray-drying system with a connected semi-automatic multi-tier storage unit and thereby further expands its production site in Lower Saxony. In addition, 13 new workplaces could be created.
“With this step Leiber is continuing on its road of consistent growth as a supplier of specialty yeast products for the food, animal feed, food supplement and biotechnology sectors,” Managing Director Michael von Laer explains one of the largest investments in the history of this company that is firmly rooted in traditions.
The spray-drying system that is to dry up to 3 000 tons of yeast extract, autolysates and MOS products per year has an internal as well as an external fluidised bed which allow for extremely targeted and particularly gentle post-drying of highly sensitive products. Furthermore, a system for the dehumidification of the drying air was integrated. This allows yeast extracts to be dried regardless of the prevailing weather conditions.
This system also makes a contribution towards insourcing. Products formerly dried by external suppliers can now be dried in-house. “This allowed us to create 13 new jobs here at our plant in Bramsche,” von Laer explained, “and this also allows us to significantly reduce our transport costs and thus to contribute to a reduction of CO2 emissions. Furthermore, our in-house dessication process also provides us with the opportunity of developing our own valuable know-how for the future.”
This complex system is currently being commissioned. It is anticipated that the planned output will be reached during the course of this summer.
