30/03/07 Tata Coffee has opened its upgraded Rs 190 million freeze-dried coffee plant in Jayamangalam, India. The new plant is expected to help the firm strengthen its presence in the soluble coffee domain as well as contribute to the company's growth plans, reports the Indian press.
Tata Coffee acquired the High Hill Coffee Company Jayamangalam facility, for Rs 110 million. The firm invested an extra Rs 80 million in the plant.
The plant currently has a capacity of 2,000 tons per annum and Tata Coffee may boost it further, depending on the growth in demand.
The opening of the plant comes 5 months after the company announced it would set up a facility in Uganda. In November 2006, FLEXNEWS reported that Tata Coffee signed an agreement with the Ugandan government to build a 3,600 metric tons-per-annum capacity plant in the country.
