Enhanced Dispenser Improves Cream Dispense
Rieke says the new dispenser can achieve a minimum 98% product evacuation, offering important costs savings for both manufacturers and consumers.
30/07/07 Rieke Dispensing has launched a new version of its pioneering High Viscosity Dispensing System (HVDS). The Airless HVDS has been specifically designed for the pharmaceutical sector, in particular dermatological emollient creams and other products that have a very high viscosity and are therefore extremely difficult to dispense effectively.
Rieke says the new dispenser can achieve a minimum 98% product evacuation, offering important costs savings for both manufacturers and consumers.
The inability of creams and lotions to self-level means that conventional pumps tend to draw product from the centre of the container leaving large amounts of residue clinging to the side. As a result, containers are left with product that cannot be accessed, a major consumer disadvantage particularly for high cost creams.
Airless HVDS uses a combination of airless and piston-up technology to push product up from the bottom of the container. This new technology delivers superior performance compared to standard pumps and follower-plate-down systems to achieve at least 98% evacuation. Another innovation of the new system is its ability to dispense very large amounts - as much as 500ml and more.
98% evacuation offers important financial benefits for both the manufacturer and end consumer in terms of less product and packaging waste, as well as providing a more cost-effective treatment per patient prescription.
Airless operation is also ideal for all types of oxygen sensitive products while no metal contact parts eliminate the risk of contamination. Another important advancement is the ability of the pump to continue to operate even when air is trapped in the product. This simplifies the filling process, which in turn means filling speeds can be increased.
New consumer convenience features include full tamper evidence, the incorporation of a content indicator to reveal how much product is left, and a special suckback system that pulls a small amount of cream back into the pump, leaving a clean spout after every dispense. This feature also further improves hygiene levels.
Rieke Dispensing reports strong interest already in the Airless HVDS from a number of leading manufacturers.
“We are certain Airless HVDS will make a big impact in the pharmaceutical sector, as well as other key markets,” comments Mark Box, Managing Director of Rieke Dispensing UK.
“Many of these products are high value items so it is vital that consumers feel that they are getting maximum value for money. Airless HVDS helps to ensure this with accurate, convenient dosing and almost total evacuation of the container.”
