EFSA Welcomes Landmark CODEX Working Group to Parma
The working group that reports to the Codex Committee on Food Hygiene is co-chaired by Finland and Japan. The 75 delegates from 34 countries and 7 international organisations make this the largest working group in the history of Codex Alimentarius.
5 June 2012 --- The physical working group on the revision of the Codex Alimentarius principles for the establishment and application of microbiological criteria for food, have attended a meeting at EFSA’s premises in Parma, Italy. In her opening speech, EFSA’s Executive Director Catherine Geslain-Lanéelle warmly welcomed all participants and underscored the importance of the group’s work.

At the request of the European Commission, EFSA experts frequently participate in meetings organised by the Codex Alimentarius Commission, a body set up under the Joint FAO/WHO Food Standards Programme to develop food standards, guidelines, codes of practice and related texts. EFSA supports the European Commission in relation to such scientific discussions. EFSA has contributed significantly over the years and is proud to host this week’s landmark meeting.
