DSM Savory Sites Awarded Top Food Safety Certification
25 Apr 2013 --- DSM Food Specialties’ Savory production sites in the Netherlands and China have both been awarded the FSSC 22000 food safety certification. Gaining this certification demonstrates that DSM savory ingredients as well as their manufacturing processes meet the highest level of internationally recognized safety standards.
The certification reaffirms DSM’s commitment to its customers to invest in its manufacturing operations to deliver the best quality products around the world. Recently, the company also announced its investment of EUR 20 mln in a spray-drying facility at its Dutch site in Delft to deliver consistent quality yeast extracts with maximum speed to the savory food industry.
FSSC 22000 is an independent food safety certification system that has been developed by the Foundation for Food Safety Certification. It looks in depth at how companies safeguard their food safety processes and asks for scientific evidence of their effectiveness. For example, the certification not only looks at if procedures for cleaning machinery and equipment are in place, but also requires companies to prove that these procedures are implemented to the right standard and have the desired results. Other elements scrutinized are, among others, the construction of the facility, the efficient supply of air, water, energy, and other utilities, the maintenance of equipment and the quality of waste disposal measures. The FSSC 22000 is one of the key food safety management system recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative and recently confirmed as a robust and transparent standard to cover the whole of the food supply chain.
