Döhler Highlights Future Beverage Platforms
Beer mixes still rank among the growth drivers in the alcoholic beverage market. One reason for this success is the rich variety of ways to combine beer with flavours or ingredients.
13/11/08 At this year’s BRAU Beviale, Döhler is showcasing numerous new beverage concepts that pick up on the trends naturalness, premium and healthy functional ingredients.
Beer mixes – always a trendsetter
Beer mixes still rank among the growth drivers in the alcoholic beverage market. One reason for this success is the rich variety of ways to combine beer with flavours or ingredients. From the beer mix with mint to “spicy mixes” and combinations with juice - almost anything goes. The breweries continue to be very in-novative where the various beer bases are concerned – the trade’s shelves are now home both to products on a wheat-beer basis and clear beer mixes. At BRAU, the DöhlerGroup pre-sented a wide range of novel beer-mix concepts on these themes.

Malt and fermentation beverages – a new, innovative beverage generation
Malt drinks are widespread in many countries and enjoy high demand, as a halal-compliant alternative to beer, for instance. Today Döhler malt extracts form the ideal platform for such var-ied refreshment drinks as fitness and sports drinks. In addition, fermented beverages are the new trend drinks in the catering sector. The DöhlerGroup used BRAU Beviale to unveil new rec-ipe formulas on this theme which met with an enormous re-sponse.
Energy drinks – new power in the beverage market
Energy drinks have enjoyed unbroken success for 15 years. While energy drinks in the past have targeted mainly young consumers up to the age of 30, natural product ideas are now addressing “best agers”, working people or motorists. The DöhlerGroup has taken two basic approaches in developing en-ergy drinks: energy drinks that draw on the well-known basis of coffee as a natural source of caffeine and those with a particu-larly high fruit-juice content. As a highlight, the DöhlerGroup presented an energy drink with 50% fruit.
Aqua Fruit – more fruit for more naturalness and fruit enjoyment!
Aqua Plus drinks have held a firm place in the beverage market for years. Now Döhler Aqua Fruit concepts – with a higher juice content (10-30%) – are closing the gap between the fruit splashes and Aqua Plus beverages. This move is satisfying the consumer’s ever-increasing appetite for natural fruit enjoyment. More taste, more naturalness – yet still the same low calorie count (< 20kcal).
Tea drinks on a roll
The consumption of tea-based beverages is set to keep on climbing in the next few years. The current trend tea varieties are primarily green tea, followed by black, white and rooibos tea. High on the popularity list with the consumer are easily digestible and mild varieties. New flavours, among them apple, pomegranate or lychee, are gaining in importance.
New opportunities with carbonated soft drinks
Product innovations, like the recently launched zero products, are revitalising the CSD beverage market. Zero products are the modern extension of light drinks, often strongly positioned as the light refreshment for the target group men. New sweetener combinations from the Döhler MultiSweet Plus range, coupled with acidifying methods, are opening up new taste nuances for colas and other soft drinks. Growing to meet this trend is the demand for extremely natural CSD beverages with natural col-ours and flavours.
Smoothies – with superfruits a double success!
In addition to healthy and natural benefit, smoothies deliver full fruit enjoyment while satisfying hunger. As fruit & vegetable shots they enable the consumer to furnish himself with the rec-ommended daily dose of fruit and vegetables in an easy and convenient way. With superfruits, smoothies represent a double gain, because superfruits are rich in antioxidants and vitamins, which have an extremely positive impact on health.
