03/06/08 Responding to consumer demand for health-oriented, great-tasting food and beverage products, Cargill will demonstrate its expertise in partnering with customers to develop health-promoting, functional products at the Healthy Foods International Exposition and Conference, June 18-19 in Dallas.
As an event sponsor and exhibitor (booth #902), Cargill will showcase a variety of consumer products, available today at retailers nationwide, that include Cargill’s health-promoting ingredients. Featured products will include milk, bread, cheese and other popular food items containing Cargill’s CoroWise Naturally Sourced Cholesterol Reducer brand of plant sterols.
“Cargill continues to invest in our health-promoting ingredient offerings to provide customers with a broad range of solutions,” said Pam Stauffer, global marketing programs and communications manager, Cargill Health & Nutrition. “The Healthy Foods International event, with its many supermarket buyers and other decision-making attendees, is an ideal place for Cargill to demonstrate its ongoing commitment to helping our customers, and retailers, meet the growing consumer demand for high quality, great-tasting functional foods and beverages.”
Cargill also will feature several new health-promoting product concepts at the event:
Pomegranate-flavored, heart-healthy drinkable yogurt. This light and refreshing, low-fat drinkable yogurt contains CoroWise plant sterols and Viable BATL-7 cultures. It supplies 0.4 grams of plant sterols per serving. As part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol, the consumption of at least 0.4 grams of plant sterols, twice daily with meals for a total intake of at least 0.8 grams, has been clinically shown to help lower cholesterol and reduce the risk of heart disease. The product also contains Cargill’s Vitex AYD 235 stabilizer blend and Natural Pomegranate Flavor with other natural flavors.
Black currant-flavored low-fat yogurt smoothie. This black currant smoothie has a delightfully complex and unique flavor, blending the cultured dairy notes of yogurt with the tart berry flavor of black currants. It contains a good source of fiber from Oliggo-Fiber inulin, a natural soluble fiber extracted from chicory root. Inulin, as a prebiotic, helps promote digestive health by stimulating the normal, beneficial bacteria in the digestive tract. The smoothie also contains 25 percent black currant juice, which has a high concentration of antioxidants. Other Cargill ingredients include Viable BATL-7 cultures, Vitex AYD 235 stabilizer blend and Natural Black Currant Flavor with other natural flavors.
Cherry walnut chewy granola bar. This bar has a pleasant sweetness with a delicious blend of cherries and raisins and the subtle crunch of walnuts. It is sweetened with Xtend sucromalt, a natural, nutritive sweetener that provides a blunted glycemic response, making it ideal to use in foods and beverages marketed to people concerned about their sugar intake. In addition to providing a low glycemic index, Xtend sucromalt offers bulking, texture and 70 percent of the sweetness of sugar. Other Cargill ingredients include Clear Valley High Oleic 65 Oil, citric acid, salt and Natural Cherry Flavor and Natural Vanilla Flavor, both with other natural flavors.
