Cambridge Commodities Launch New Digestive Health Products
12 May 2016 --- Cambridge Commodities have announced that it is the exclusive European distributor of Anagenix’s Actazin and Livaux, aimed at improving gut health. Anagenix create products based on bioactives contained in fruit and plants for the purpose of promoting health and wellness. Elouan Morel, European sales manager at Cambridge Commodities said: “We are thrilled to be able to bring a product to Europe that is clinically proven and backed up by research.”
Livaux, a non GMO, New Zealand SunGold kiwifruit powder, is described as restoring F. prau for microbiome balance. The company states that the product: “is proven to increase levels of Faecalibacterium prausnitzii (F. prau) in the gut of functionally constipated individuals and improve healthy bowel frequency. Reduced levels of F.prau have been associated with gastrointestinal disorders such as IBS and IBD.” The freeze dried powder is suitable for use in tablet or capsule form.
Actazin targets bowel regularity through the use of green kiwifruit, which is presented as a cold-pressed powder concentrate. Cambridge Commodities claims the product “contains soluble and insoluble fiber for bowel regularity, polyphenolics, actinidin, an enzyme which enhances protein digestion, and prebiotics.”
Cambridge Commodities also presented a range of product concepts at Vitafoods 2016, including the ProEarth range consisting of seven varieties of protein powder. Hollie Chapman, Marketing Manager for Cambridge Commodities spoke to FoodIngredientsFirst about the finished product concepts: “We are presenting healthy snack products, including vegan chocolate and black detox bites which are charcoal based, with a skin health and beauty positioning.”
“The ProEarth range focusses on sustainably sourced, vegan, and environmentally friendly alternatives to the standard animals proteins available,” Chapman says. The protein sources include black bean, almond, pumpkin seed and quinoa protein powders. Aside from several of the protein powders, such as buckwheat and hemp, being free from major allergens, Chapman explains that some of the benefits of can also be found in excellent textures: “The blends we’ve put together are quite smooth, they taste good and have a pleasant mouthfeel and smell. It’s about getting the balance right to create a product that is healthy and tastes great. The proteins in the ProEarth range also contain a lot of high-end fiber and antioxidants, such as the cranberry protein.” The cranberry protein is described as being is produced by an enzyme free, solvent free cold extrusion and filtration process.”
Other products presented at Vitafoods include the vegan and vegetarian black detox bites, containing activated charcoal. Chapman says: “I think they are the star of the tasting bar, they’ve gone down really well. They contain coconut oil and macqui powder. “Nourishing ingredients,” Chapman says, “all natural and antioxidant. The main concept behind it is that this is a natural snack that is quite good for you and also delicious.”
The company’s Goji reds vegan chocolate bar is also attracting considerable interest, claiming to provide superior taste while being low in sugar and salt. Chapman explains that the goji and the red fruit and berry powder blend has a high antioxidant content. She says: “That’s the Cambridge Commodities’ take on vegan chocolate by including that powder blend within the formulation for added health benefits.”
