Batory Foods' Mexico-Based Facility Now Certified in BRC Global Standards
This certification is the first stage of Batory Foods' initiative to achieve BRC Global Standards' certification in all of its manufacturing and warehouse facilities by 2016.
5 April 2012 --- Batory de Mexico, the 170,000-square-foot, Matamoros-based manufacturing plant of Batory Foods, has achieved certification in BRC's Global Standard for Food Safety. This certification is the first stage of Batory Foods' initiative to achieve BRC Global Standards' certification in all of its manufacturing and warehouse facilities by 2016.
This long-term corporate program sends a clear message about Batory Foods' steadfast commitment to distributing the safest, highest-quality food and fine ingredients. With an emphasis on continuous improvement and service excellence, BRC certification will assure suppliers and formulators that the ingredients they source from Batory meet rigorous criteria for safety and quality, a benefit they can pass on to consumers across the United States.
"With this initiative, we're voluntarily holding ourselves to the highest standards in the industry," says Ravi Somanahally, Director of Quality Assurance, Batory Foods. "For customers, BRC's global recognition will afford the utmost confidence in Batory's food ingredients, while our vendors will have the opportunity to better understand their own operations through our reports on their performance across a full spectrum of BRC safety metrics."
BRC certification requires the adoption of an HACCP system, a science-based quality management system recognized across the world; a commitment to directing resources toward maintaining food grade facilities; and the implementation of rigorous controls at every critical point in the manufacturing process.
"A major part of this certification, of course, focuses on the food and fine ingredients themselves," says Lorena Carrillo, Quality Assurance Manager, Batory de Mexico. "But the personnel dimension is just as important. Across every department at the Mexico plant, our employees are now trained in techniques for the proactive management of food safety issues. And a workforce with that kind of expertise provides tremendous value to the customers who do business with us."
