Barking Irons Distilling & Imports Co. Releases First Product, Barking Irons Applejack
30 Oct 2015 --- New York, NY (PRWEB)— Today, Barking Irons Distilling & Imports Co. announces the release of its first product, a premium 100 proof spirit, Barking Irons Applejack. Made locally, the cider from 100% NY apples is distilled to a fine spirit at Black Dirt Distillery upstate before being aged in char 2 oak barrels at Brooklyn’s Van Brunt Stillhouse. Hand-labeled and individually numbered, the first batch will be available at select NY State retailers and online in a limited run of just 400 cases.
The Barking Irons Distilling & Imports Co. is co-owned by creative partners Elliott Phear and Casey McGrath, and is a partnership with Barking Irons clothing founders, brothers Michael and Daniel Casarella. Initially inspired by Five Points-era New York and the rough and tumble spirit of Old Bowery culture that emerged from it, the Casarellas formed the Barking Irons brand in 2003. Meeting Phear and McGrath at an after-party some years later, the four hit it off and went on to produce an acoustic music series together in the brand’s Bowery loft space in the late 2000s. It was there, on the Bowery, while enjoying their fair share of booze-soaked celebrations, where the idea for a spirits line was born. With Phear and McGrath’s background running a spirits and rock n’ roll-focused creative agency and a shared interest in applejack’s long history (early New Yorkers freeze-distilled it at home, a process known as jacking), the partners began the process of bringing Barking Irons Applejack to market for its release this year.
The initial batch of Barking Irons Applejack is a sophisticated pairing of white pepper and cocoa, with an upfront spice reminiscent of a well-balanced rye whiskey that finishes clean like a crisp apple cider. A second batch of Barking Irons Applejack will be made available in Spring 2016.
Neat, in a shot, or to give your favorite cocktail a little downtown flavor, Barking Irons Applejack sets the standard for smooth, drinkable applejack. A recommended cocktail is the Barking Irons Lower Manhattan, similar to the original, just a little further downtown.
