Barentz to distribute ACT Polyols’ rice-based sweeteners and proteins in North America

31 Jan 2022 --- Barentz, a life science ingredient distributor, will become the exclusive North American distributor for ACT Polyols (ACT). The Pakistan-based manufacturer eyes big growth in the clean label market with its non-GMO, rice-derived sweeteners and protein isolates.

Its ingredients, available in organic and conventional grades, are used in dietary supplements and food products, such as beverages, desserts, confectionery, energy bars and baked goods.

ACT’s rice-derived ingredients are used in dietary supplements and food products, such as beverages, desserts, confectionery, energy bars and baked goods.He notes that Barentz’s global reach, especially its extensive network in the North American market, enables ACT to obtain customer insights that form the cornerstone of its mission to be “the most innovative and quality-conscious supplier of sweeteners and proteins.” ACT’s sweeteners include a variety of maltitol, sorbitol and rice syrups. Its clarified rice syrup, for example, is a multifunctional natural sweetener with a clean, sweet taste.

Though processing, filtration and evaporation, the syrup is carefully manufactured through enzymatic liquefaction of allergen and GMO-free rice.

ACT Polyols’ rice protein is also made from locally-produced allergen and GMO-free rice.

It is produced by treating rice with special enzymes that separate rice’s protein content from its carbohydrates. Once the protein content is isolated, a plant-based, gluten-free protein powder is produced.

Capitalizing on high-quality
Strategically located within Karachi, ACT is positioned to source a distinctive selection of high-quality rice.

Its production facility boasts GFSI (FSSC 2200), Non-GMO Project verified, USDA certified organic, kosher and halal certifications.

Clean label sweeteners in demand
Sweeteners have gained increasing relevancy as the public health debate puts obesity and high sugar intake into focus.

Even traditional categories like confectionery are seeing an increase in demand for sugar-reduced and clean label products.

In other moves, Barentz was appointed strategic partner for Chr. Hansen Natural Colors (now Oterra), to distribute its natural color portfolio in South Africa and Zimbabwe.
