Yellow Rose Distilling Receives Double Gold Medal at 2014 San Francisco World Spirits Competition
16 Apr 2014 --- Yellow Rose Distilling, LLC., an emerging micro-distillery and Houston’s first legal whiskey distillery, is pleased to announce the results of the 2014 San Francisco Spirits Competition. Yellow Rose Double Barrel Bourbon, their newest spirit, received a Double Gold medal.
To receive a Double Gold medal, all judges must agree that the spirit is worthy of a gold medal. “No other distillery from Texas won a Double Gold at this year’s San Francisco competition. With even fewer medals passed out this year, we were excited to see Yellow Rose rank on top”, states co-founder Ryan Baird.
Yellow Rose Double Barrel Bourbon is a unique spirit that combines traditional bourbon with special finishing techniques. After the bourbon is aged for several years in American white oak it is transferred into French oak cabernet wine casks for up to six months. The additional finish produces roasted chocolate, plum and maple syrup notes, adding to the complexity of the whiskey.
Over 1400 spirits were submitted to the 2014 San Francisco World Spirits Competition from 41 states and 63 countries. The competition is one of the top spirit contests in the world where judges blindly compare spirits within a given category.
“Unique barrel finishes are becoming more popular in the marketplace. “We are excited to have created one of the best in this specialized category”, states co-founder and distiller Troy Smith.
