Tereos to Partner With Jungbunzlauer to Strengthen Central European Sweetener Position
17 Dec 2014 --- Tereos, the fifth largest global sugar producer, and the second largest European cereal-based sweetener producer, is pursuing its expansion and strengthening its position on the Central European liquid sweetener market thanks to an agreement that consolidates its partnership of over 18 years with Jungbunzlauer, the world’s leading citric acid producer.
The end of sugar and isoglucose quotas in October 2017 will result in an expansion of the liquid sweetener market in Europe, and especially in Central Europe.
With this aim in mind, Tereos and Jungbunzlauer are strengthening the industrial partnership that they entered into in Marckolsheim (France) over 18 years ago.
The agreement signed by both groups secures the long-term supply of Jungbunzlauer’s plant in Alsace, which will be supplied from Tereos’ starch production plant in Marckolsheim, thereby enabling Jungbunzlauer to develop its business activities and to offer new outlets for French agricultural productions. Jungbunzlauer use the starch hydrolysate to produce different organic acids, salts thereof and Erythritol.
Tereos will market cereal-based liquid sweeteners in Austria, which will be produced at the Jungbunzlauer plant in Pernhofen. Accordingly, Tereos will be able to offer its customers in the food processing and fermentation industry in this region a full range of sugar and glucose syrups.
Tereos told FoodIngredientsFirst: “This agreement will also enable Tereos to review the construction of an isoglucose production unit at the same facility, which is one of the most cutting-edge facilities in Central Europe.
“As the world’s fifth-largest sugar group and the third european producer of starch products, Tereos is developing internationally to support its customers’ expansion in the perspective of 2017. In Central Europe, Tereos is located in Czech Republic since 1992 where it has a leading position and the group has also been present in Romania since 2013.”
This partnership will enable us to broaden our geographical coverage for cereal-based sweeteners in Central Europe. Accordingly, we will be able to provide better support to our customers on these markets, which will be required to expand when the quotas end in 2017. We are delighted to be strengthening our historical ties with Jungbunzlauer, a market-leading group that is recognized for its extensive expertise”, said Alexis Duval, Tereos’ Chief Executive Officer.
