Raisio and Unilever Agree on Cross-Licensing

21/12/07 Raisio plc and Unilever have agreed on partial cross-licensing and thereby granting non-exclusive rights to the global plant sterol and stanol patents defined between the companies. This agreement is a conclusion to the opposition proceedings between the companies.

Matti Rihko, CEO of Raisio, considers this an important agreement. “This agreement strengthens significantly the IPR-portfolio that is the base of the Benecol business. The cross-licensing agreement with Unilever is an indication of Raisio’s high-quality, internationally acknowledged research and development of the Benecol ingredient. This agreement guarantees that both parties can concentrate on developing their business and applications instead of defending their patent portfolios in opposition proceedings.”
