Parmalat and Tetra Launch New Milk Carton
The packaging shift reflects Parmalat’s commitment to industry innovation and represents the first significant packaging innovation in white milk for more than 10 years – the first of its kind in Australia.
Sep 16 2011 --- Victoria’s milk drinkers will be the first in Australia to see their beloved milk carton with a new twist, thanks to the leaders in innovation, Parmalat and Tetra Pak. The introduction represents the first fresh milk packaging revamp since the glass bottle was bid farewell a decade ago.
Responding to consumer feedback about difficulties in opening existing milk cartons, the new-look Pauls milk carton has been created to make opening, pouring and storing much easier. The resealable capability of the twist-cap ensures the milk remains fresh throughout its shelf life and will be applied to Parmalat milk brands, Pauls Full Cream, Rev and Skinny Milk, in Victoria.

The one litre, paper-based Tetra Pak carton, Tetra Brik Edge, is widely popular in European markets, and received Swedish Rheumatism Association’s Package of the Year accreditation for its ease of use.
The new Pauls milk cartons from Tetra Pak are also environmentally friendly. They carry the globally-recognised Forest Stewardship CouncilTM (FSC) certification. This means the wood content of the paperboard is from responsibly managed forests and other controlled sources. The Forest Stewardship Council is represented in more than 50 countries and is determined to meet the social, ecological, and economic rights and needs of the present generation without compromising those of future generations.
Parmalat General Manager, Marketing, David Waugh, says the new package is a smart carton for chilled dairy products.
“Innovations and environmental guarantees exist in a variety of other products, so it’s about time it existed for a household staple like milk. We’re proud to be a part of this innovation,” Mr Waugh said.
Tetra Pak Oceania Managing Director, Noel Ayre, said the company was thrilled to bring this packaging innovation to Australia, off the back of its European success.

“Fresh milk is an everyday product for most Australians so a local launch of this new package was an obvious move for us, and we’re pleased to do so with the market’s leader in fresh white milk, Parmalat,” Mr Ayre said.
The carton’s sloping top angle offers better stacking in the fridge, plus better gripping and pouring for consumers.
