Nordic Sugar Reports of Record Results
03 Feb 2015 --- Considerable beet volumes, high sugar yields per hectare and stable production characterise Nordic Sugar's 2014/15 production season which has delivered scores of records in both Denmark and Lithuania.
Nordic Sugar's factories in Denmark and Lithuania have recently processed the last beets in the 2014/15 beet campaign. In total, the Danish factories in Nykøbing and Nakskov have processed almost three million tonnes of beet which have been refined into some 480,000 tonnes of sugar.
The Lithuanian factory in Kedainiai has had the same record run with close to three quarters of a million tonnes of beet which have been refined into approx. 116,000 tonnes of sugar.
Massive beet volumes
The season outcome is the same for both countries: massive beet volumes, high beet quality, high sugar yields per hectare, though with a somewhat lower beet sugar content than the past five-year average, and a stable and high production rate in the factories.
- The large beet volumes have naturally tested the energy efficiency of the factories, and this year we have really been able to see the benefits of having a steam dryer as the one we have in Nakskov.
After some start up difficulties, the steam dryer has met all our expectations and resulted in the factory having among the lowest energy consumption of all our factories, says Jesper Thomassen, Managing Director, Nordic Sugar A/S.
Records abound
With a campaign duration of approx. 124 days, the employees at the three factories can look back on record-breaking production for both processed beet volumes, production rate and sugar production in both Nykøbing and Kedainiai.
“We have had a fantastic campaign. Production has been running well and stable at all three factories but this has not come on its own. With their long experience and fantastic commitment, our employees have taken on the challenges that have occurred on the way, not least in respect of securing this year's large sugar volumes. It is to their credit that we have succeeded,” said Jesper Thomassen.
The 2014/15 beet campaign has now come to an end in Finland, Denmark and Lithuania. The only factory left is the Swedish factory in Örtofta which is expected to process its last beets at the beginning of February.
