Gadot Biochemical Continues Implementation of Global “Responsible Care” Program
Responsible Care commits companies to continually improve the health, safety and environmental performance of their products and processes. It functions as a measurable establishment of key contributions by the industry toward sustainable development.
Aug 16 2010 --- Gadot Biochemical Industries (GBI), Haifa, Israel, has announced the next stage of its global “Responsible Care” program initiative for chemical product manufacturing through receipt of OHSAS 18001:2007 certification, Health and Safety standard.
"This certification status takes GBI’s sustainable development campaign to a higher level and further secures the company’s commitments to support of the environment and the global community as a whole,” says Ronny Hacham, VP Business Development and Marketing at Gadot. “This action is part of our strategy of setting the benchmark for quality and safety of ingredients and is complementary to several moves taken earlier by the company.”
Now in its second year of progress toward increased sustainability and implementation of the "Responsible Care” program, GBI’s attainment of OHSAS 18001:2007 level of certification includes strict adherence to the Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series (OHSAS) requirements for health and safety management system standards. These standards are employed, according to OHSAS, “in order to facilitate the integration of quality, environmental, and occupational health and safety management systems.” They encompass built-in systems of audits/examinations; continual improvement coupled with process enhancement toward continuous risk assessment, hazard identification and health and safety improvements.
“With the increasing globalization of the food supply, customers demand accountable suppliers with regard to the quality and safety of ingredients, as well as to ensure the supplier is engaged in responsible operation in all aspects of environment, safety, hygiene, security and society,” explains y Hacham. “Receipt of OHSAS 18001:2007 certification demonstrates GBI’s core commitment to, and continuation of, its long-standing policy of integrating all aspects of environment, safety, hygiene, security, sustainability and society."
GBI pairs its advancement of the Responsible Care initiative with enhanced emphasis on overall sustainability practices.
Responsible Care commits companies to continually improve the health, safety and environmental performance of their products and processes. It functions as a measurable establishment of key contributions by the industry toward sustainable development and puts into action policies for: “measuring and publicly reporting performance; implementing the responsible care security code; applying the modern responsible care management system to achieve and verify results; and obtaining independent certification that a management system is in place and functions according to professional standards.”
