FrieslandCampina Kievit Launch Dairy Solutions for Single-Serve Brewing Systems
11 May 2017 --- FrieslandCampina Kievit, one of the leading global manufacturers of beverage and food ingredients, has developed a range of premium dairy-based solutions for capsules that promises the rich taste and appealing appearance consumers are willing to pay a premium for. With the launch of the new Vana-Cappa range, FrieslandCampina Kievit continues its mission to create moments of indulgence for consumers.
Coffee enthusiasts are increasingly seeking to replicate at home the quality and variety of choices offered by coffee shops. This is reflected in the global volume growth of 8.5 percent of the single-serve coffee pod market and the increase of 9 percent in the number of milk-based single-serve coffee pod introductions in 2016, compared to the year before.
Charll van Veen, Sales Manager Single-Serve Brewing Systems at FrieslandCampina Kievit spoke with FoodIngredientsFirst: “We see that the out-of-home experience is setting the scene and coffee bars give an impulse to milk coffee varieties. Consequently, the quality and variety of out-of-home is wanted in-home as well. Hence, the challenge is to combine excellent taste, foam performance, solubility (or clean-out of the capsule), convenience and variety – all in the small available space of a single-serve capsule. A challenge we have managed to tackle.”
“Our products have a very clean milk taste thanks to the use of milkfat (vs. vegetable fat), have excellent sensorial qualities (mouthfeel, whitening effect) following extensive research by our R&D sensory team and the large majority of the single-serve portfolio is e-number free,” he adds.
“We have some consumer response already as we have performed a panel research to gain insights on consumer preferences and FrieslandCampina Kievit is on par or even better than the market leader: the testing panel rated the taste as good as the taste of the market reference. Besides that, consumers are more and more conscious on what they are eating and drinking and are constantly looking for variety. Needs we can address thanks to our clean label and wide-ranging portfolio.”
The ‘milky part’ providing creaminess, in the form of both dairy and non-dairy alternatives, has substantially gained popularity, which created the demand for a variety of coffees such as cappuccino, café latte and latte macchiato.
The out-of-home experience is now looking to be replicated in-home as well, with preferences shifting from multi-serve to single pod, and black coffee to Italian-style specialties. This steady growth is set to continue in the years ahead, with single-serve expected to grow 25 percent by the year 2021.
Commenting on the launch, van Veen also noted: said: “Coffee preferences vary enormously throughout the world. Offering consumers rich taste and appealing appearance comes down to understanding the many factors that influence purchasing habits, like creaminess, milkiness, colour, foam height, texture and intensity of the coffee flavor. Our portfolio of dairy-based solutions for single-serve brewing systems embraces this diversity. Whether it’s lovely layering in a latte macchiato, superior foam height and stability on a cappuccino or excellent whitening performance and a premium dairy taste in a café latte – we have it all on our menu!”
The new powdered dairy solutions in capsules offer excellent solubility to enhance the overall taste, experience and indulgence for the consumer. The capsules that contain Vana-Cappa dairy solutions provide superior clean-out rate with a push-on-the-button system, solving the cleaning hassle. Additionally, all solutions contain high bulk density which allows for a higher amount of milk, good foam performance, whitening, foam height and perfect layering (latte macchiato) in the end-application, thereby meeting consumer needs.
In keeping with shifting consumer behaviours, FrieslandCampina Kievit aims to continuously enhance its dairy capsule ingredients by combining Royal FrieslandCampina’s dairy knowledge with the powdered solution knowledge of FrieslandCampina Kievit. As a leader and industry first-mover, FrieslandCampina Kievit remains committed to knowledge-sharing that enables industry peers and players alike to develop and co-create new concepts throughout the entire single-serve value chain.
