French Food Safety Agency Recognises Nutriose’s Fibre Properties
Nutriose users can now confirm “source of fibre” claims for their products when Nutriose content is higher than or equal to 3g in every 100g of foodstuff, or “rich in fibre” claims when it is 6g in every 100g.
26/10/07 Roquette says that it has always been able to demonstrate scientifically to its customers that Nutriose is a soluble fibre. However, in addition to this, Roquette has sought recognition from AFSSA, an official, independent agency with an international reputation for the quality of its evaluations and the rigorousness of its judgements.
AFSSA is an independent public body that monitors, alerts, provides evaluations of and carries out research into the health and nutritional risks of foodstuffs intended for humans and animals. Working for the French Health Ministry, AFSSA is actively involved in the protection and improvement of public health.
In its evaluation of 30 July last, AFSSA recognised Nutriose as a soluble dietary fibre. This means Nutriose users can now confirm “source of fibre” claims for their products when Nutriose content is higher than or equal to 3g in every 100g of foodstuff, or “rich in fibre” claims when it is 6g in every 100g.
By reinforcing the international image of Nutriose AFSSA’s recognition also strengthens Roquette’s reputation as a company able to satisfy the world’s most demanding users of ingredients.
Nutriose is a range of soluble fibres obtained from mainly from cereals. The exceptional digestive tolerance factor and neutral flavour of Nutriose facilitate optimum fibre enrichment without compromising the flavour of the end product. Nutriose is also used to reduce sugars and fats. Moreover, studies have shown that this dietary ingredient produces only a minimal increase in glycaemia, helps to maintain the health of the colon, and has a positive impact on satiety and in the formulation of slow energy-release dietary products.
From a technological point of view, Nutriose is remarkably stable. Nutriose’‘s properties remain unchanged at high temperatures and in acidic environments. Moreover, the fibre content of Nutriose remains stable throughout the life of the end product. Nutriose is also characterised by its outstanding solubility, which facilitates its incorporation in product manufacture. Nutriose is used in a broad range of foodstuffs and beverages, particularly drinks, soups, biscuits, bread, confectionery, dairy products, ready meals, etc.
