Florida Beer Company Releases Gaspar’s Porter
15 Jan 2013 --- Florida Beer Company announces the release of its boldly redesigned Robust Porter that keeps with our brewing heritage and also ties in with Florida history and lore, the return of Gaspar’s Porter.
Last available in 2009 as part of the Ybor Gold Variety Pack, Gaspar’s Porter is named after the famed Pirate, Jose Gaspar, the last pirate of the Caribbean. Legend has it, while surrounded by the British, Gaspar wrapped himself with his ship’s anchor and dove into the sea below, rather than be captured alive.
The 2013 return of Gaspar’s Porter will see the recipe reformulated and the logo and package redesigned. The robust porter combines flavors from eight malts including four specialty chocolate malts. Imparting a dry roasted malt character with subtle hints of cocoa, licorice and toffee with a balanced hop spice. The beer will be released throughout Florida, on and off premise just in time for the 2013 Gasparilla season and making the draft list at many on-premise locations as part of South Florida Craft Beer Week. Gaspar’s Porter will also be sold in Virginia, Maryland and D.C.
“With a bolder recipe and reinvigorated packaging we are excited to have Gaspar’s Porter back in our portfolio of beers,” said V.P. Rick Clay. “Gaspar’s Porter is part of our deep, rich Florida brewing tradition. After a few years away, it was time for its return.”
