Flexible Packaging from Renewable Resources
Organic packaging is no marketing gag, but offers real advantages in comparison to flexible packaging made from fossile raw materials.
28/11/2007 From November 13th to November 14th, 2007, IRR hosted the first bio-plastics conference - flexible packaging from renewable ressources in Vienna. This event is unique in the whole of Austria and offered the packaging industry, retailers, manufacturers and anybody interested the chance to acquire a vast know-how on the subject matter and to learn from successful practice report on the introduction and usage of organic plastics.
Fossile fuels become scarce, and the prices increase due to the continuously growing demand. The raw materials of the future are PLA, starch, PHB, PHV as well as cellulose and will be used for environmentally friendly organic plastics for the manufacturing of packaging material in the future. The origins of these raw materials are corn, oranges and palm leaves.
The manufacturers of packaging are capable to change over to alternative raw materials and to use their mostly better properties for fresh products. Organic packaging is no marketing gag, but offers real advantages in comparison to flexible packaging made from fossile raw materials. Products remain fresh for longer and keep their high quality for a longer period of time. Last but not least, manufacturers take into account the increased environmental consciousness of consumers and are able to give their organic foods a suitable packaging.
