Dec 13 2011 --- Firmenich, the world’s leading privately-owned flavor and fragrance company, has celebrated the official groundbreaking ceremony for its new flavor production facility at Karawang International Industrial City, near Jakarta, Indonesia. This facility, dedicated to the production of Durarome, is expected to be fully operational by the first quarter of 2013 and represents an initial investment of $25 million.
This new Durarome state-of-the-art production facility supports the group’s global strategy to significantly increase its operations in the important growth markets of Southeast Asia and to best meet the evolving needs of its clients in this dynamic region. Through this expanded local presence Firmenich aims to strengthen its market leadership in the Durarome flavor encapsulation technology and to advance its science further to meet the needs of both the Indonesian domestic market and of the rest of Southeast Asia.
The groundbreaking ceremony was launched by Panggah Susanto, Director General of Indonesia’s Manufacturing Based Industry. “Firmenich is an industry pioneer with a world class range of innovative products,” Panggah said at the event. “We are thrilled that the company chose Indonesia for its latest manufacturing site. We expect this facility to strengthen both the company’s value chain as well as Indonesia’s reputation as a growing global manufacturing center.”
“While Firmenich has been present in Indonesia since 1994, this is the first country after the Americas where we have established a production facility for our unique Durarome encapsulation technology” said Aldo Uva, Firmenich Flavors Division President. “With this strengthened operating capacity in Indonesia, we aim to deliver superior service to our clients locally and across Southeast Asia as well as to expand our market reach throughout this growing region.”
