Demand for the fruit and its spice has increased by 20% within the last year, which has reflected positively in company profits. According to research, Mexican is the fastest growing cuisine in the UK with its popularity having increased by 9.8% during the last 12-18 months. The Mexican food industry is now worth £132.2 million in Britain and shows no signs of abating.  Additionally, Peruvian cuisine, which relies heavily on the Mexican jalapeño chilli, is also experiencing a surge in popularity and has been hailed as “the next big thing” by innovators in the food industry. For example, at the end of last year, consumer website The Food Channel included the cuisine in its “Top ten food trends for 2012”.

And it seems that as British consumers lap up the dishes of Latin America, food manufacturers are going to great lengths to ensure their offering is as authentic as possible.
